1. Offer research and advice to veterans who wish to handle their own claims.2. Assist veterans who are filing original claims for compensation and/or pension with the Department of Veterans Affairs and complete the required VA forms on behalf of the claimant.3. Assist veterans in reopening claims for service-connected disabilities and complete the required VA forms.4. Follow up on status of claims filed by veterans with the VA Regional office.5. File Notice of Disagreement with the VA Regional office if a veteran believes the decision made by the VA was incorrect.6. Review statements of the case from the VA regarding denials of claim and assist veterans with thepreparation of responses.7. Assist veterans or surviving spouses in the preparation of appeals for denial of claims and file the appeals with the local VA regional office for forwarding to the Board of Veterans Appeals in Washington, D.C.8. Complete VA forms other than for original claims. 9. Answer/research telephone inquiries regarding medical, death/burial and other miscellaneous benefits.

Performs all work as outlined for Veterans Counselor. Serves as Office Manager. Performs supervisory duties assigning and reviewing work, planning, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, recommending disciplinary action as needed, and conducting performance evaluations. Reviews amendments and/or policy changes to Title 10/ 38 USC, 38 CFR, and regulations, VA program guides and VA rating schedules. Communicates changes to staff. Runs a satellite office independent of close supervision. May be required to represent the Veteran Services Officer at speaking engagements and meetings in his absence. Performs related work as required.

Interviews veterans and/or their dependents to determine eligibility for benefits. Verifies application information through Federal, State and Local agencies as required to process claims. Makes inquiries as necessary to Veterans Administration and other agencies in order to resolve problems or establish a source of social assistance for clients. Prepares appeals which are subject to review by the U.S. Court Veterans Appeals. Reviews amendments and/or policy changes periodically to Title 10/38 USC, 38 CFR, and regulations, VA program guides and VA rating schedules. Coordinates for the hospital needs and medical care of clients. Counsels and files applications for service-connected disability and widow's benefits; education, (veterans and eligible dependents); medical treatment; aid and attendance, domiciliary care, specially adapted housing, clothing allowance, automobile and adaptive equipment, death benefits; home, mobile home, and condominium loans, veteran's preference in employment, Florida D.V. tag, and life insurance. Prepares and processes various veteran claims, reports, and records in a timely manner as required. Interacts with various individuals and groups on matters related to veterans benefits. Prepares claim forms and legal briefs. Assists veterans in research, development and prosecution for correction of military records and discharge review applications. Contacts doctors and other individuals relative to furnishing official affidavits and evidence for individual claimants. Liaison between clients and VA Medical Center/Outpatient Clinic. Works with representatives of a variety of governmental agencies on matters related to veteran benefits. Works with Veterans Outreach Centers. Required to participate in and attend related conferences and conventions. Maintains files on all veterans claims. Performs related work as required
