I am an economist by training and am currently the Head of Analytics at Hudson Labs, where I use data to inform business decisions, assist with the sales process, and develop content for the company's newsletter. I have over a decade of experience with quantitative research in industry and academia. In one of my dissertation chapters, I used large administrative datasets of parents' income and records of employment, and children's test scores from British Columbia, Canada, to study the causal effect of parental job loss on children's test scores. I found that parental layoffs have a negligible short-term effect on children's test scores and that the large negative effects found in the previous studies were likely driven by selection bias. The paper combined propensity score matching with a difference-in-difference design to identify the causal treatment effect. Prior to my PhD, I worked with the fixed-income team at Sprott Asset Management for five years. Using Python and SQL, I developed a suite of analytics that helped the team identify profitable investment opportunities for our fixed-income funds.
