I have enjoyed working for Nomad in this capacity since 2011. During this time I have been developing my skills in marketing and building up good referral systems and I am very well educated in the area of travel health, complex travellers and the management of travel clinics. I worked hard to build an enthusiastic and well-trained nursing team which consistently has produced increases in turnover during recent years. When I started at Nomad in 2011 I was working alone in a single clinic seeing a maximum of seven or eight patients a day. Since then I have marketed, recruited, trained and currently work alongside three other contracted nurses, there are double, sometimes triple, clinics running daily, and I am proud to say that the clinic is full pretty much all of the time. I have voluntarily stepped down recently from the role as Lead Nurse to focus more on my one and two year old (a job in itself!) but I am maintaining the CQC registration. I still love and am committed to what I do day to day. I am confident about my knowledge in travel health having completed a full two-year in-house training program. Because of my experience I also act as one of the senior on call medical staff for the rest of the company which is UK wide. I am always willing to train new nursing staff and have visited other clinics within the company to assist where needed. Through Nomad I have also been to travel shows and many conferences and I have spoken at conferences too presenting the latest travel health information to audiences of over 100 practice nurses and GP's. I work periodically for the ICS branch of VSO with young people delivering seminars (pre-departure health briefings) on medical considerations during their placements in developing countries and often in very remote, low-resourced locations.
