My work focused on designing a sensor for a pesticide implicated in bee population decline. This involved the optimization of existing imprinted polymer technology and thorough characterization of the materials utilized.Other work in the BelBruno lab during my time involved improving the synthesis of semiconductive polymer nanowires.While completing my research I taught a variety of undergraduate laboratory sections including honor's general chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and physical chemistry.

Trained upper-level undergraduates in the synthesis and characterization of metal-bearing compounds. Provided feedback for them to hone their scientific writing. Managed the laboratory risks associated with air-sensitive compounds. Instructed students in the use and analysis of FTIR, NMR, GCMS, CD, and polarimetry.

Supervised undergraduate science majors as they gained confidence in their laboratory techniques. Maintained a safe and clean laboratory environment.

Guided upperclassmen in the precise execution of physical chemistry laboratory experiments, and mentored them as they applied the quantitative methods learned in the lecture to their experimental results.

NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates: Processing and Characterization of Hierarchical Surface Treatments for Ti Implants: TiO2 NanotubesGrew titanium oxide nanotubes on polished and microstructured surfaces. These structures were then characterized by SEM, and cell adhesion was then assessed as a marker for osseointegration.
