I am currently the Lead Programs Facilitator at Amazement Square Children’s Museum. At Amazement Square I wear many different hats. Most importantly I write and facilitate school programs, Girl Scout programming, Special Education programming, and Wondercamp (a camp for 3-9 year olds). Previously, I graduated with my Master of the Arts of Teaching from Sweet Briar College. While I was at Sweet Briar, I was an outdoors instructor, an equipment manager, and a student building supervisor, as well as a varsity athlete. My love for working with children began when I spent my summers helping my mother, a special education teacher, work with her students over the break and grew from there. I spent five years at Sweet Briar which took that raw passion for teaching and formed it into a craft. Not only have I written and implemented many SOL based lesson plans for various grade levels in a traditional grade school, but I have also created and implemented SOL based programs in a very non-traditional setting. Amazement Square is a hands on learning environment for students of all ages. My work at Amazement Square has proven to me the importance of inquiry based lesson plans and the power of play. It has been a transformative experience for my teaching philosophy, and has given me an avenue to explore new teaching concepts with many different ages and types of students.
