Writing and editing: this is where my true passion lies. I began my freelance work during my freshman year at VT, where I was a published academic and research writer for the Honors College, for the Research Institute, for assorted programs and conferences. I've also had my creative work published in numerous creative writing magazines across the country. During my junior and senior year, I was the fiction editor for The Silhouette, Virginia Tech's creative magazine, and I spent my summer as an editorial intern for McGraw-Hill's Humanities, Social Sciences, and Languages Department. Most recently, I've helped with the creation and editing of blogs, resumes, and cover letters.

As a freshman admissions counselor, I represent the University of Houston to the community with the goal of identifying, recruiting, counseling, and admitting academically qualified college freshmen. As a major aspect of my job, I educate and present to the public programs and academic criteria within the University of Houston and of colleges in general. I must effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues, students, administrators, parents, and the community.

Independently developed and implemented lesson and unit plans for 10th grade World Literature and 11th grade American Literature. Guided students towards successfully completing high school and entering college or the career force. Taught an SOL course and maintained a 90-100% pass rate for students. Frequently hold after school office hours and SOL review sessions. Facilitated the growth of students and aided in the publication of several students’ creative work.

Independently developed and implemented lesson and unit plans for 10th grade English: Literature, the Individual, and Society class. Collaborated with cooperating teacher and grade level teams to ensure the success of all students at Everest--a heterogeneous charter school with the goal of preparing all students for college. Supplement English content knowledge for incoming 8th grade students. Help support a diverse student population in the mastery of the previous year's content before entering into a new school year.
