Working on behalf of Washington State's 27 community health centers, I collaboratively develop and execute policy, advocacy, and public relations strategies to expand awareness of and access to the comprehensive primary care. Washington's health centers have more than 400 clinics across the state, providing community-rooted, comprehensive and preventative primary medical, dental and behavioral health care to 1 in 7 Washingtonians.

At the Washington Association for Community Health, I am developing strategic communication and advocacy plans and campaigns for this statewide organization and the Federal Qualified Community Health Centers (FQHCs) who are our members.

On the food policy and programs team at the City of Seattle Office of Sustainability and Environment (OSE) my work includes strategic planning, program management, intergovernmental relations, relationship building, public-private partnerships, policy analysis and development, community engagement, and policy advocacy. Below are a few examples of my recent work. PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS. I am developing and managing relationships with grocery stores interested in accepting Fresh Bucks, a Seattle-based healthy food access program. I developed and led a process to recruit independently-owned, culturally specific stores to become partners, as well as supermarkets and franchises. I am also the liaison between our e-benefit technology provider and the grocery stores. POLICY ANALYSIS, ADVOCACY, INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS: During the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, I also provided operational and research support to the Emergency Food Task Force. This included monitoring, tracking and reporting on federal stimulus food assistance to the OSE Director, Mayor and Council, as well as working across departments and food system partners to communicate and distribute new/additional food assistance to our neighbors. I am now developing a broader policy advocacy strategy to incorporate into the city's Food Action Plan. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. I staff the Sweetened Beverage Tax (SBT) Community Advisory Board, a high-profile, volunteer board which provides recommendations to the Mayor and Council on how to allocate revenue earned from the SBT. The board's focus areas are access to healthy foods, childhood health and development, early learning, and education. I support the board by providing analysis of city budget and programs, providing frameworks to plan and facilitate meetings, and coordinating community engagement.

Policy manager and legislative assistant for Councilmember Abel Pacheco. In this role I convened stakeholders and conducted policy research to provide policy options and help draft legislation for the Councilmember. Policy areas and activities include: - Convening stakeholders and drafting amendments for the hotel workers health and safety legislation, - Working with Seattle Public Utilities and small businesses in U District to address alleyway cleanliness and safety issues, - Convening and developing recommendations on how to improve domestic and gender-based violence services in the City, and - Research on education, regional governance structures, and zoning.

Community College Research Initiative

The Office of Program Research at the Washington State House of Representatives is a non-partisan service center that conducts research and drafts bills and amendments for Representatives and committees. As the public affairs intern, my projects include researching legal and policy issues, analyzing legislative proposals, and drafting potential legislation for consideration during session.The internship is two parts - with an intensive training program over the summer and direct policy work during the legislative session.

The CleanTech Alliance is a trade association with 300+ members who are growing the regional cleantech economy and working towards a greener future. I manage external communication for the organization - including sending a newsletter, writing press releases and blog posts, managing media relations and social media, and outreach. As I pursue my MPA, I also plan to take on special projects related to workforce development.

As a tutor during the "walk-in" tutoring hours, I aided students with the organization, focus, style, and grammar aspects of their writing. This included pieces in all academic subjects, from English 101 to lab reports to graduate school applications. As a small group facilitator for one and a half years, I facilitated peer editing and writing lessons during hour-long tutorials with 3-5 students.
