As a recent alumn at the University of Utah I have had many opportunities to participate in research, field experiences, and learn industry standard GIS tools and techniques. In early June of 2024, I started as a GIS Specialist for Summit County. In this role I have many opportunities to learn more about county-level GIS services, and have begun working on many different projects from public address requests to in-depth Python projects to produce more efficient workflows. My research at the University of Utah RED (Records of Environmental Disturbance) Lab through the Undergraduate Research Opportunities program (UROP) has given me the opportunity to learn about environmental science and climate change through a paleoenvironmental lens, and how to work in a lab environment. Field experiences such as my summer field session for Paleoenvironmental field methods and coursework in Geospatial field methods have introduced me to using common tools for field data collection. Such as using and setting up a calibrating mobile GPS units, drone piloting and imagery analysis and more. My course and professional work has developed my abilites in Python, R, SQL and GIS software such as ArcGIS pro and online, Field Maps, Survey123, QGIS, PGAdmin and more.
