Sportcentrum Hoorn offers room for fitness with over 100 group activities per week, tennis, squash and padel. This establishment has almost 4000 active members. Oct 2013 - Present

Thesis Intern

Amstelveen, North Holland, Netherlands

Intern at the Asset Management department, Strategy team. During 8 hours per week, I contributed to an investment case that underlined the strategic value of real assets. Working on this case was spread over several months. I composed two meeting documents for one of the pension funds. One of the topics was advice on the policy surrounding securities lending. The other proposed adjusted bandwidths, which were based on the updated allocation towards investment categories. 32 hours per week was spent on writing my master's thesis about the optimal asset allocation under the new pension regulations, comparing the different optional asset mixes with Prospect Theory. Making use of stochastic contributions, stochastic stock returns and projections of the yield curve using a Dynamic Nelson-Siegel model, which in turn determined bond prices.

Student Assistant Project Campus 2.0

As a student assistant for VU Amsterdam's department of Communication & Marketing, I contribute to an ongoing project 'Campus 2.0', which is meant to create a campus feeling on VU's website. Together with a colleague, we set up a student panel and gathered students' input about the designs and content for this project. Next to that, we're also brainstorming about ways to improve the student community and what the most valuable features are to develop on Campus 2.0. From January 2023, I started contributing to the visibility of student councils and their recruitment for the elections again. I designed posters and leaflets informing students of their opportunity to run for the elections. I helped to organise the election week and voter turnout was increased compared to the year prior.

Student Assistant Student Participation

As a student assistant for VU Amsterdam's department of Student and Educational Affairs, I mainly focused on improving the visibility of the student councils and the elections in April 2021. It was especially challenging after a long year filled with changing COVID-19 measures. As there was not much education on campus, recruiting students to run for the elections proved difficult. Varying digital channels and limited channels on campus were used for recruitment. Furthermore, the student council election week relied on having many activities on campus to motivate students to vote. In collaboration with different departments of VU Amsterdam, we carried out a physical and digital campaign to call for votes.

Coordinator Communication

During my position as Coordinator of Communication, I led a committee consisting of 4 students and helped improve the council's online visibility, strengthened the student community, supported study and student organisations and contributed to many different projects. Especially with COVID-19, the student population suffered from a loss of connection and some struggled with having to study from home (almost) entirely without the appropriate facilities. We organised several online events, for the different student councils and student organisations. We helped varying student bodies reach out to their communities and offered settings to share ideas to keep students engaged. This academic year, it proved difficult to recruit council members for the year after as recruitment activities could not be organised on campus. In my other position as a student assistant, I focused on alternatives for recruitment and the annual student council election week.

Student Member Of Vu'S Strategic Policy Team

Following the COVID-19 pandemic and the ever-changing measures, the strategic policy team (or strategisch beleidsteam in Dutch) gathered once a week to discuss the implementation and consequences. I took a seat on this team, next to my already existing responsibilities to the VU's University Student Council. During meetings, I spoke in a personal capacity, but I did gather input from different student organisations and student councils to bring up.As a student member of this team, I represented student's interests. I advocated for partially opening the university buildings for students who did not have proper facilities at home. An application was used to show students which rooms were open to use and how many students were sitting there already. This was shown on screens and was accessible from home. This ensured that the room's maximum capacity, according to the rules, was not exceeded. Besides that, I relayed questions from the student organisations and student councils about certain policies and requested assistance for particular problems that arose from these policies. I also put graduation ceremonies for students higher on the priority list as soon as small celebrations and events were allowed again.

General Council Member

Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands

The University Student Council (USR) is the Participation Council of and for the students of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The council is mainly engaged with the quality and accessibility of the education, and the student policy of the VU.As a General Council Member, I was mainly involved with Internationalisation, IT, Financial and Economic Affairs and a portfolio called Self Development that focused on how students could develop themselves besides their studies. One of the things we accomplished with Internationalisation was having a translator present during the official meetings between the student council, the works council and the university board. This ensured that international council members could contribute to the meeting, without having to change the meeting's official language which remained Dutch.
