About Alyssa Schmidt
I am a third-year student at UCLA, majoring in Political Science with a focus in American Politics. My expected graduation date is June 2025, and I plan to attend law school in fall 2025.From a young age, I was inspired through my involvement in school student government and my church's outreach programs to connect with those in my community. The saying that my mother instilled in me of "making myself uncomfortable to make others comfortable" is something that I have turned into a mission statement for everything I do in life. In combination with my passion for politics and government, my goal career-wise is to have a platform to share this passion with others and make both educational and tangible resources available to all - essentially making our bureaucracy accessible to all communities.I worked in high school towards these aspirations of connecting with others and advancing accessibility through my roles in student government, volunteering clubs, and youth advocacy commissions. Now at UCLA, I have continued this mission in the External Vice President's Office, BruinsVote, the Student Alumni Association, Rotaract, an Undergraduate Research Journal (Aleph) and as a local tutor.Outside of school, I enjoy swimming, reading historical fiction, playing pickleball, and volunteering in my own community.
