Native Vote Washington (NVW) was started in 2008 by a Native-led collaborative working to increase the political empowerment, education, and engagement of Native Peoples in Washington state. NVW is a fiscally sponsored project of Washington Conservation Action.

Washington Environmental Council (WEC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, statewide advocacy organization. For over 50 years, WEC has brought people together to solve Washington’s most critical environmental issues. WEC builds power for the environmental movement by building partnerships, mobilizing the public, connecting voters to decision makers, and taking legal action. WEC centers and amplifies the voices of the most impacted communities to develop, advocate, and defend policies that ensure environmental justice and protection. Washington Conservation Voters (WCV) ensures Washington’s decision makers keep our environment protected, healthy, and vibrant. Over the last 35 years, we have elected environmental champions, held our elected leaders to the highest standard, and built statewide momentum for environmental campaigns through innovative voter outreach efforts and community organizing. WCV’s mission is to advocate for environmental progress and justice through actions that mobilize the public, elect champions for the environment, and hold our leaders accountable. WCV is organized as a 501(c)4 nonprofit. The shared vision of WEC/WCV is: Through collaborative, statewide efforts inequitable structures and systems have been dismantled so that everyone in Washington enjoys clean air and clean water, healthy communities, and a vibrant and equitable economy. By effectively combining the policy know-how of WEC with the political know-how of WCV, we have reshaped how environmental protection is achieved in Washington.

Following established management and leadership abilities, I was acknowledged with promotion to Chief Operations Officer from Chief Operations Manager by the 27th Tribal Council. I offer expertise in conducting all operations of tribal government consisting of five branches, two quasi-enterprises, and over 600 employees and $33M in tribal, grants, and contract dollars. I serve as the primary lead in downtown infrastructure improvements and development efforts.Some highlights of this position are as follows:♦Implement and regulate Natural Resources, Public Utilities, Health and Human Services, Education, and Public Safety operations, and High Lookee Lodge, assisted living facility. Monitor budgets and practices to adhere to goals and objectives of the Confederated Tribes.♦Enforce tribal procurement and expenditure policies, prepare requests for proposals (RFQ’s), obtain quotes, and prepare comparative quotes and purchase orders. Negotiate vendor rates, delivery, and payment terms.♦Lead elected officials in tribal strategic planning; advise and brief Tribal Council regarding policy issues and consultation efforts and monitor State and Federal level legislation. ♦Primary strategic planner for tribal government, development, and fundraising; work conjointly with tribal enterprises, local organizations, businesses, and state and federal foundations to combine funding streams and create plans to advance and maximize tribal funding. ♦Direct all communications and outreach efforts including online newspaper, tribal radio, online tribal portal, and tribal website; manage all content, write all press releases, work directly with media outlets; define, manage, and build all tribal branding efforts.

The International Indian Treaty Council (IITC) is an organization of Indigenous Peoples from North, Central, South America, the Caribbean and the Pacific working for the sovereignty and self determination of Indigenous Peoples and the recognition and protection of Indigenous rights, Treaties, traditional cultures and sacred lands.

The Indigenous Global Coordinating Group (GCG) is tasked with the coordination of Indigenous participation at all levels leading up to and including the high level plenary meeting of the General Assembly to be called the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples.

As a Development Specialist I supported the Executive Director and program staff in conducting national outreach to targeted communities for purposes of procuring tribal donors. I designed and implemented a national tribal development plan by examining data from previous events and targeting most efficient outreach methods for future events; directly increased tribal donations 125%.Some highlights of this position are as follows:♦Constructed E-Tapestry media list to include print, radio, and online resources for national Native Americans; formed relationships with key Portland metro area reporters.♦Created Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn social media sites, wrote engaging content for social media and web sites, and produced quarterly e-newsletter servicing 5K subscribers; managed subscriber data transfer to utilize new system.

The Mark O. Hatfield Fellowship was established in 1998 by the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon as a living tribute to Senator Hatfield. The fellowship provides an opportunity for a Native American from the Pacific Northwest region to serve as a member of staff in one of Oregon’s representatives in Congress for a period of 9 months. Hatfield Fellows also participate in the American Political Science Association’s month-long fellowship orientation and gain invaluable experience learning about the inner workings of the federal political system.
