The throes of the 2008 financial crisis and ensuing recession left this English major grasping for a fulltime job - any job - to help me pay off student loans and make rent in my first apartment. It was then that I accidentally stumbled in a fulfilling career in internal communications and the rest is history.A vivid storyteller and people-connector, I served in various internal communication roles in Human Resources, banking supervision, and Public Affairs at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia until 2021. Among the highlights of my years there included serving as chair of the Talent Forward ERG, that time I transitioned a 100-year old paper employee newsletter to email format (just in time for a pandemic), and hiring and mentoring several cohorts of summer interns.I assumed a new role in September 2021 at the National Wildlife Federation as internal communications director. At the Federation, I've been proud to serve on the future of work committee and implementation team, advise senior leadership on best practices for employee communications, and create bedrock programs and systems for a diverse and geographically spread out staff to connect and learn from one another. I'm committed to learning every day and growing in my competencies as an equitable and inclusive leader. I am proud to support the fantastic and dedicated people who are helping to literally save the planet, wildlife, and humans. And I never met a pun I didn't like.Side hustle alert! https://www.firebrandwordsmith.com/
