This role saw me supporting and improving manufacturing operations by working on various projects:• Modified an existing machine to process a wider range of materials, thus eliminating manual work, reducing process variability, and improving efficiency• Used spaghetti diagrams, time studies, data analysis, and stakeholder input to improve the plant layout of a growing department which minimized waste, accommodated new equipment, and increased overall efficiency• Facilitated communication between shop-floor personnel and the engineering team to implement better solutions throughout process improvement initiatives• Tracked throughput data in a spreadsheet to provide a summary of project progress, as well as provide greater insight for capacity planning• Researched and implemented ergonomic lifting equipment as part of an accident prevention initiative to improve operator safety• Conducted and documented destructive testing to determine root cause of part defects• Designed and implemented a new brazing fixture with feedback from all stakeholders• Created work instruction documentation for epoxy dispensing equipment• Investigated root cause of laser cutter malfunction and replaced faulty components• Modified wire stripping equipment to reduce operator skill and improve process quality• Conducted make-or-buy analysis of a part to verify the feasibility of outsourcing

This course taught Lean Six Sigma at a green belt-level and this knowledge was applied to a process improvement project at Elmer's Manufacturing.I, along with a team of students, worked with industry participants and operators to identify the root causes of a bottleneck manufacturing process.By using tools such as the Quality Journal, Control Charts, Fault Tree Diagrams, and Process Flow Charts, the team was able to identify several sources of waste whose elimination meant a projected 15.7% decrease in cycle time for the bottleneck process.
