Training people to work with families before, during and just after childbirth. Labor Support Doulas provide emotional, physical and informational support. BFEZ The Brooklyn Breastfeeding Empowerment Zone was my initial training project. We seek to make breastfeeding the norm in Bedford Stuyvesant and Brownsville. These are two Brooklyn neighborhoods that have very poor outcomes for babies. They have a high rate of premature births, low birth weight and infant mortality. There is a history of low initiation and duration of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding can help save lives!

Eye Addom supports families as they bring new life into the world. Amadoma has attended births since 1979, in homes, hospitals and birthing centers. She is a CAPPA Certified Childbirth Educator, An ICTC Certified Full Circle Doula/Birth Companion and she is a founding member and Vice President of Sistahs for Better Birthing. Eye Addom means "It is grace" or "By the grace of God" As an Okomfo, Amadoma has studied and practiced some of the sacred birthing traditions of the Akan people of West Africa. She is now helping to birth the children of some of the sons and daughters of the mothers she helped thirty years ago! As a storyteller I perform at a variety of cultural and educational facilities.I also conduct workshops in storytelling for teachers, parents and students.Associate artist with Pickney Productions, Afrikan Poetry Theatre, Drumsongs Productions and Asase Yaa African American Dance Theatre. Available for performances and/or workshops.

I worked with youth between the ages of 13 to 21 on a local teens newspaper, "Queens Teens Voices". While researching, interviewing subjects, writing articles, taking photographs, creating podcasts; the youth developed skills for the workplace. They also received help in writing resumes and cover letters and roleplay job interviews. They were journalists in training.

I was a classroom teacher for 8 1/2 years (grades 1, 2, 3, 4). I was an elementary and junior high school librarian for 9 years.I taught the common branch subjects, coordinated the library program, which included circulation of books and teaching library science. I was the school multicultural coordinator and I also coordinated school-wide contests, such as the storytelling contest, the spelling bee, and the book-making contest.
