I love mentoring young girls and I am on a mission to make Bioinformatics go viral!I am a lecturer in the department of Computer Science, University of Ibadan. Nigeria with specializations in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Machine Learning, Data Science and Software EngineeringI worked in the Software unit of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), an international agricultural research institute (https://www.iita.org/) for 14 years before resigning to become an academic. Reason? I love connecting with and mentoring young people. That is why I founded a STEM club for young girls - TechMadel (TechMadel – TechMadel Mentorship)Both my M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees were in Computer Science from the University of Ibadan with specialization in Bioinformatics. I completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT, USA under the Empowering the Teachers Fellowship (MIT-ETT) for outstanding young academics in Africa. The MIT-ETT post-doctoral fellowship provided fellows with the best practices in pedagogical methods and independent research investigations which are capable of promoting in-country science and technology research and education capacity.I am a TechWomen 2013 fellow, an initiative of the United States Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. TechWomen empowers, connects and supports the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) from Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East by providing them the access and opportunities needed to advance their careers, pursue their dreams, and inspire women and girls in their communities. As the Lead for the University of Ibadan Bioinformatics Group, I provide leadership in projects including the University of Ibadan Bioinformatics Group (UIBG) Node of the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded Human, Health and Heredity Africa (H3Africa) Bioinformatics Network (H3ABioNet) and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Bioinformatics Projects. I have successfully supervised several PhD students, who have proceeded to post-doctoral research. I have extensive experience with supervising graduate and undergraduate research projects.
