I am currently a Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences graduate student in my final semester at San Francisco State University. Along with my Masters of Science degree, I will also be receiving an AAC Certificate.As a future speech-language pathologist, I will make sure to prioritize listening to, supporting, and advocating for all children and adults who wish to improve their communicative abilities in the most culturally responsive way. My goal as a clinician is to provide the most effective, client-centered services that can be integrated into the different lifestyles that each of my clients possess. Being a bilingual, Latina woman I hope to give back to my community and advocate for bilingual therapy and assessments. I will celebrate the differences and diversity of my clients and focus on building a trusting relationship.As a clinician, I will constantly work to create an inclusive and culturally responsive environment where clients can feel safe, heard, and comfortable expressing themselves. I will achieve this by continuing to learn and by adapting my therapy, when needed, in order to make my practice accessible to anyone and everyone who wishes to receive speech and language services. It is integral to continue to base therapy on evidence-based practices while still incorporating the wants and needs of my individual clients.Having confidence in your voice and communication abilities is something that everyone deserves to experience, and I hope to be able to support them through that journey, the way that my sister was supported through hers. My sister had a paralyzed vocal cord and struggled communicating and socializing with her peers. She then began speech therapy and gained more confidence in her voice and communication abilities and, as a family, we learned how to better support and advocate for her on this journey.
