Ambulance Technician
Ambulance Care Assistant
Process Control Technician
My duties as a process control technician consisted of;Plant sampling for testing and analysispreparing standards when requiredInterpreting the analysis of results.Calculating the correct blend size and the quantity of chemicals to add to each individual blend, and assist the plant operative in initiating the start of the blend.Ensure conditions of downstream processing are correct and suitable to ensure that the final product is within specification and adjust conditions and parameters as necessary to ensure control.Quality testing of the final product.I liaise and communicate with Gel operators, production personnel, Shift Managers and R&D personnel and self-manage my workload, working with minimal supervision, often being a lone worker within the lab out of core hours.
Process Engineer
My current roll has is a mixture of siting/project work and continued plant support work which involves general process engineering tasks.Recently I worked on a new fast tracked project, being involved from the initial conception to fruition at full scale. This required all the major project activities such as HAZOP studies, Environmental impact assessments (EIS) for SEPA, chemical and operational hazard assessments, plant integrity documents, relief calculations and assessments and plant comissioning to be undertaken prior to manufacturing start up. This product was initially sited into an experimental small scale facility, and then subsequently from this manufacture, the process was sited into the larger main manufacturing plant, applying the knowledge gained from the small scale manufacture when considering the plant options. I provided support to the trial and also to the initial and successive full scale plant manufactures as part of a shift team providing support to the production team and manufacturing technicians.I have also recently been involved in data gathering for the COMAH report and I frequently provide information for the updating of (EIS) for SEPA, along with looking at human factors around plant operations.
Process Engineer
My role continued to be plant support, small and large projects and general process engineering tasks.I undertook a major role in a project to trial and resite a pharmacutical product to the site from another leading manufacturer, this involved technical liaison and a visit to their site to see their product being manufactured.I also worked on process improvements/plant support, which can involve shift work & close interactions with manufacturing technicians for start-ups.
Process Engineer
During this role I worked as part of a team on a major pharmaceutical project in excess of £10M capital. As part of the team I was involved in hazard and operability studies, commissioning activities and finally plant start up and initial manufacture. This role was an enjoyable challenge, especially being able to see the project through from concept to fruition of manufactured product. After start up I provided manufacturing support for this product.I also worked on smaller siting projects throughout the next few years which also involved Hazard studies, Safety relief, area classification, materials of construction reviews etc.The role of the process engineer within the Pharmaceutical specialties group also involves giving plant support to existing agrochemical and pharmaceutical products, this work can vary from optimising scrubber water usage to problem solving issues with the plant or process and also worked on some smaller siting projects.During this role the new PPC legislation was rolled out in 2005 and part of my work involved preparing the Environmental impact statements and calculating the emissions expected from the operating processes.During this period I continued with my degree course in Chemical Engineering through the West of Scotland University Graduating in 2002.
Process Engineer
From 1994 to 1999 I continued to work within the Pigments and additives business.Within this role I provided engineering skills to contribute to the development of a new process route for one of the key pigment processes, minimising solvent loss to the environment. This involved small scale experimental trials prior to trials at full scale. This information was then used to re-site the product to another plant within the site. The re-site was a major capital project, involving most project activities such as hazard and operability studies, plant commissioning and major trial work.Part of my role within this group was also to run a small scale Netszch mill, charging the crude pigment and all the materials required to process the pigment by bead milling. This was used as a platform for scale-up to the Larger model, which was installed within the plant as part of the major capital projects. As part of the Process Technology department I was involved in routine interactions with multi-disciplined teams to provide process expertise.During this period I also took the decision to proceed with my degree in Chemical Engineering through a day release programme with the West of Scotland University, and began attending from September 1998.From January 1999 I moved from the Pigments and additives business group to Life Science Molecules group which consisted of mainly pharmaceutical products.
Chemical Technition Trainee / Assistant Process Engineer
From 1987 to 1989 I was exposed to various disciplines within the analytical and process technology departments, which included 6 months in analytical department quality control lab, 6 months in R&D, 6 months in the environmental lab section, and finally 6 months in one of the plant laboratories, looking at the plant data, and conducting experiments. The next two years as a trainee were spent working alongside process engineers, and getting involved in process engineering tasksDuring these initial 4 years I attended Falkirk College on day release , completing my Scotvec certificate in Chemistry, followed by my HNC in Chemical Engineering. After completing my training I proceeded to work as an assistant process engineer within the Pigments and Additives group.
