Profile bio

About Amanda Batek, P.Eng.

I am a diligent, experienced chemical engineer with 25 years in the refining industry in a variety of roles ranging from operations, planning, financial analysis, comparative benchmarking, and capital program management. I have benefited from the mentorship of senior executives and subject matter experts, which has provided me with a wealth of opportunities and complemented my curiosity and desire to learn. How did I end up in engineering? It was a perfect blend of my parents’ skills, an electrical engineer and a pharmacist. From an early age, I wanted practical solutions and to understand how things worked. This has carried over into my hobbies, for example, playing strategy board games where I’m seeking to build and execute a winning strategy and have fun! I also enjoy paper crafts, where I investigate new tools and produce a product that ultimately brings joy to others. These pastimes demonstrate my practicality, analytical nature, and creativity in action.I enjoy adding value using my analytical and critical thinking skills, where I can find a “story” in a sea of numbers, and partner with the data owners to understand the background and context. I am a firm believer in quality work - do it once and get it right, even if it takes a little longer. I want to make a meaningful difference by finding and providing solutions to gaps in performance.
