About Amanda Berman

I am an urban planner with a specialty in affordable housing, community development, and the arts. Working closely with civic leaders, developers, artists and visionaries, I combine passionate advocacy with a sharp command of detail, logistics and marketing.I am proud to have been one of the driving forces behind Los Angeles's CicLAvia, the series of car-free, open-street events that has drawn hundreds of thousands of Angelenos to celebrate their city by bicycle and foot in ways they’d never imagined. As Director of Community Development & Planning with Community Arts Resources (CARS), I also led community programs for LA’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and other government entities and civic organizations, coordinating large-scale events and outreach campaigns with many moving pieces.I combine strategic vision with a knack for bringing complex projects to fruition, helping civic agencies and organizations overcome their sense of limitations. There's nothing I love more than helping an organization go from thinking they can’t take on a new program to knowing that they’re ready for an impactful adventure.I am a native of Pennsylvania, and hold a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Business from Penn State University and a dual master’s degree in Urban Planning and Public Art Studies from the University of Southern California. I lived and worked in Los Angeles for thirteen years before moving to the Boston area, where I have worked in the affordable housing arena for the past seven years.
