I know the direction I want to go …My life has been full of journeys and adventures. It has taken me from teaching to technical entertainment at Universal Studios. I love to learn new things, I love to work, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds me. Below is my career journey thus far; let’s take a walk, shall we?Ever since I was a kid, I thought I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up. I had a preschool teacher who inspired me and showed me what it was like to be a teacher. I went Nova Southeastern University. After 3 years, I received my BS in Elementary Education. I got a teaching position as a 4th grade teacher, was the youngest teacher in Broward County at age 20. A year later I received my MS in Secondary Mathematics. I continued teaching, changed schools, changed grade levels but enjoyed every moment. After 9 years of teaching, I went back to school for my doctorate at Lynn University. After 3 years, I earned my EdD in Education. My teaching career lasted for 15 years; 3 schools, 5 different grade levels. All my years of teaching have taught me so much. From the clubs I sponsored, the groups I helped organize, the teams that I led, I felt like there was still so much more I can learn.I moved to Orlando and decided to pursue a career at Universal Studios. I figured with my background, my 3 degrees, my experience, it wouldn’t be too hard. Well … it was. I applied for so many positions and received so many rejection emails. I was finally given an opportunity as a HHN House Attendant. I was nervous because I was not a fan of HHN but those 3 months were the best 3 months ever. I had so much fun, made so many friends, and was just happy. I was able to stay with Universal Studios by becoming an attractions attendant at Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts where I continued to learn and grow. After a year, I decided I needed to explore outside of attractions. I was lucky enough to be hired as a Holiday Parade Escort. I enjoyed working with the performers and the techs so much that I wanted to stay in that department. I continued with Entertainment Tech by becoming a Mardi Gras Float Spotter/Driver. I thought HHN was fun, but Mardi Gras was even more fun. I didn’t feel like I was going to work everyday … and that’s when I knew I found my home.I took a big risk leaving a full time position in attractions and dropping down to seasonal but I was able to stay in Technical Entertainment. I do not get the hours I wish I could l but I am making my way. I am meeting new people, trying different things, and learning new skills. I am happy!
