Hi y'all! My name is Amanda dare and I have been an entrepreneur since I was 20 years old, making headbands in my dorm room. After multiple tries with entrepreneurship through my early twenties, I started my 5th business - The New Blak. A Fashion Brand with a Sustainable and Ethical Mission of empowering the garment workers and the customer. the New Blak was open for 8 years from a tent at a market, to a mobile boutique, to a small shop and eventually a storefront in the Oxmoor Mall. Building The New Blak was one of the most challenging and rewarding lessons in business. During the Pandemic, I looked inward as so many of us did. I realized that my fashion design business held a few too many constraints on my creativity and I needed to scale it down and I opened a new business, Woman-Owned Wallet. With a pink maximalist aesthetic, it has always been a far cry from the black minimalistic aesthetic of The New Blak. I was able to finally come out of my cocoon and release my full creativity into the world. Woman-Owned Wallet: The Feminist Gift Shop Opened on August 8th, 2020. We have never looked back! Women need spaces held for them to thrive in our community. WOW's mission is to put money into the wallets of women because when women have money, they have choice. We feature all woman-owned businesses in our Feminist Gift Shop. WOW also offers Self-Guided Walking Tour for all of the Woman-Owned businesses in the neighborhood.We have expanded the WOW Brand into yearly events, a podcast, and a event space: WOW Factor Collective. Many of the WOW customers loved our shop but wanted to host their events in it but it wasn't large enough to foster our growing community of creators and celebrators.The entrepreneur life is the one for me!
