The geodatabase used internally as a support tool for the project (through viewers using publisher), resulting in a GIS web application for use within the project. Cartographic and analysis support (ArcGIS & Access) for the project team during the site selection process. Implementing strict policies and procedures to ensure data standards and to fit in with document control procedures in Assai and SharePoint, the projects standard tools.

2001-2008Halcrow Group Ltd, Burderop Park, SwindonThe production of hardcopy maps for environmental and coastal projects, including shoreline management plans, habitat and river sustainability projects. QA and preparation of river and coastal defence asset data for flood foresight and flood risk analysis programs for the government and Environment Agency. Collating and displaying the results for publication in hardcopy and on the web. Assist with the updating of web based mapping for clients using ArcIMS. Shared responsibility for coordinating resource management for team of ten (technicians and analysts), implementing QA procedures and responsible for the backups and archiving of project data.

Providing site installation (PC & network), custom training courses and telephone support. Assisting programmers with development and testing for upgrades, bug fixes, and new versions. Managing Support and Maintenance contracts and organizing user group meetings (clients include National Trust, local authorities, National Parks etc). Developing and updating a database of client information, issues and future development wishes. Writing and updating software manuals and newsletters.

1997-1999: Rio Tinto (Riominex Exploraciones SA), Valverde, Huelva, SpainProviding cartographic and database services and training for an expanding field exploration office. Providing cartographic support for geologists and geophysists, for presentation and report work. Creating base environments (from Autocad and Geosoft Oasis files) within Mapinfo for datasets covering South West Iberia, for creating target selection areas. Linking and geocoding Access database information within MapInfo. Creating and populating a catalogue and library system for maps drawings and reports to be incorporated into a larger exploration data catalogue linked to Mapinfo. Responsible for the backup and archiving of data. Maintaining software upgrades including anti-virus software on all pc’s, and toubleshooting basic network problems.

1995-1996: Rio Tinto, BristolResponsible for the restructuring and implementation of an in-house European Data Catalogue and other geological database environments, and linking these to a graphical system. Processing of data to produce accurate quality maps for use in the field and official documentation. Shared responsibility for upkeep of the network system and backups of data. Training of software packages within the company, including overseas offices and support given abroad when required.

1990-1995: Rio Tinto (Riofinex Ltd), Purton, WiltsResponsible for the drawing and IT unit in a small highly motivated busy field office. Performing a variety of duties; processing and producing hardcopy maps, from geological and geophysical raw data, for multiple projects all over Europe resulting in target selection areas. Georeferencing data from various sources with different coordinate systems for use within GIS packages. The production of quality overheads and slides for presentation purposes. Managing the network and methods of data exchange between software and other offices. Giving IT support to other members of office and field staff, and ensuring data backup security.
