About Amanda Horvath
Turning a 10-year-old’s dream of becoming the next Barbara Walters into the documentary-producing, award-winning, and dedicated local journalist I am today has not been the straightest path. But with an early passion for knowledge-sharing and writing, I’ve built upon my natural ability to connect with people to build an ever growing and diverse group of sources and the stories they’ve shared.Over the last nine years I separated myself in the business by my forever-growing list my skills. Most recently I added to and diversified my role as Managing Producer at Rocky Mountain PBS where I’ve produced more than 45 magazine or documentary style shows. Serving as videographer, producer, writer, and/or director, I adjust to each episode providing the skill most needed from me. I was part of the team that recently premiered the 10th season of Colorado Experience, the award-winning historical documentary show produced at Rocky Mountain PBS. Prior to this I was a senior producer at 9news KUSA in Denver. Born and raised in Colorado, moving back to the mile high city was a dream come true. Working at 9news became integral place of my development and understanding of the state and the people around me. I worked as the second in command and 6 a.m. producer from November 2019 to April 2021. I was on the 7-9 part of the morning show before that starting in April 2018. There I truly began my leadership journey helping to not only leading a daily broadcast while working through the night, but also dealing with constant changes to the work and the people around me. Before that, I thought I would try out my sea legs the fields of corn in Iowa. I graduated magna cum lade from Drake University in Des Moines in 2015, worked part-time at a top-rated station in Des Moines my senior year, and then moved east to Cedar Rapids for nearly three years. After all that, all I can say is people make the place. And I loved the people of Iowa.Through the biggest mental health challenges of my life to seeing my name among Emmy nominees, truly what has carried me through all of it is my passion for people ... learning their stories and sharing their experiences. Through it all that my passion of mine has never dwindled.

Multimedia Producer
Producer
I worked on the number one rated morning show in the Denver TV market for three years. I started out as a strong leader of the 7-9 part of the show, in charge of two hours of content while competing for viewers from the Today show and other channels. I wrote scripts, picked out stories, designed graphics, arranged interviews, collaborated on researched stories, and helped manage a team of about 25 people. During this time I also was nominated for a Heartland Regional Emmy for a show I produced. After about a year and a half in this position, I was promoted to the 6 a.m. producer, becoming the top line producer and second in command for the whole show. During this time, I helped rebrand, reinvigorate and raise the ratings of the morning show. I have linked my youtube page where you can see some of my recent work including a compilation from last year, five stories called Hindsight 2020 that I produced, and some recent moments or shows I've produced.
Multimedia Producer
For the first year and a half at this job, I produced the weekday morning newscast. The morning news gave me great beginning training as well as the autonomy to be responsible for content management, writing, and more. Starting in January 2017, I made the move to dayside and produced the 5PM newscast. In this shift, I worked more often with reporters on crafting story ideas and their finished products. In August 2017, I started producing the 10PM newscast. This gave me more responsibility with reporters and content management decisions. This entire time I have also been responsible at times for posting stories online and on social, editing video for newscasts, and filling in wherever I am needed.
Part-Time Producer
Part-time producer for the weekend morning shows at KCCI
President
As President of the Drake Broadcasting System, I help run all of the broadcast activities for students at Drake outside of classes. I help manage KDRA-LP, 94.1 the Dog and our video side of production. I hired the executive positions, balance the budget, organize events, and work with other students to improve their work. I also hire the Executive Board for the DBS presented Drake Relays coverage in April.
Reporting Intern
I worked essentially as a part-time reporter for about 15 hours a week. On a daily basis, I produced short stories for the local part of All Things Considered. I gathered my own stories and edited my own audio from press conferences, in-person interviews and phone interviews. I also pitched, wrote, researched, produced and voiced three, longer feature pieces that aired on Iowa Public Radio. You can hear some of my work on this sound cloud link.
News Intern
I assist reporters on stories, and I am expected to develop my own stories ideas as well as conduct my own interviews. I have also developed several packages from my own stories and my own version of stories I have shadowed on.
Executive Producer Of The Drake Relays
I hired my producing team, and I decided on what hours we were broadcasting. We held talent try-outs and I chose our reporters and commentators. Then organized teams to cover many aspects of the Drake Relays. Scripted, produced, and directed the half an hour long sports pre-show. Edited video to go into playback, and problem managed during our two days of four hour long live broadcasts.
Operations Manager
I organize and train every DJ that is allowed on air. And I consistently listen to the radio station to make sure it runs smoothly. That also includes checking "out logs" to insure things are playing properly. I am the main person DJs contact about anything concerning the radio station.
Work Study Student
I work in the Assistant Dean's office in the School of Mass Communication and Journalism
