Specimen Processing

I worked with new hires in their first 20 hours to understand Specimen Processing's rules and regulations, along with ARUP Laboratories' corporate culture. Additionally, I created a database to track the training needs of 400 employees.

I provided weekend support for the Customer Service Team and reviewed processing of specimens to ensure timely delivery to various technical sections. I also worked with the supervisory team to develop morale/incentive program for a team of over 400 employees using gamification techniques.

I was the point of contact between laboratory technical sections and corporate quality and compliance. In this role, I reviewed occurrence reporting for multiple departments and improved processes in technical and laboratory areas. Additionally, I provided training for QA Technicians in laboratory sections on how to conduct process analysis activities in their departments.

I received and labeled specimens for delivery to the technical section. When I observed that the department was talking a long time to resolve problems between our section and other laboratories, I assisted in the development of a "Technician III" position that became the contact for various laboratory and customer service personnel. This position reduced turnaround time from the time an error occurred to the time it was resolved and reported to the compliance department from an average of 48 hours to an average of 5-6 hours.

Created and directed an outreach group that targeted teen club-drugs users. While working with HRP and Dancesafe.org, I developed new training materials and organized a "Parent's Night" with the local community and the raving community.As an outreach worker with the Harm Reduction Project, I provided outreach and other health services to injection drug users, sex workers, and other medically under-served clients.
