I believe education can open so many doors. A good education starts with teachers, students, and schools that are supported and valued. As a writer, curriculum developer, and educator, I work to increase the support that our education system so desperately needs.Prior to writing curriculum and assessment, I taught sixth through eighth-grade science for eight years. During that time, I worked to enhance the science literacy of all of the students at my K-8 school, not just those in my classroom. I was looked to by many of my fellow teachers as the person who could answer their questions about best science teaching practices and the latest in classroom technology. Before teaching, I worked in an environmental testing laboratory for two years. In the lab, I ran an ion chromatography machine and three gas chromatography and mass selective detector machines to test for soil, air, and water contaminants related to gas station locations. I helped to onboard new hires and make sure everyone knew what was expected of them. My experience in the classroom, as well as my deep understanding of teaching, make me a versatile employee who is ready to learn new things and make a difference.
