Currently I am working on a Project that involves 5 LGA's in the Northern section of the Loddon Mallee Region. The project involves OT's working closely with HACC Assessment staff to create better outcomes for Clients and their Carers. The role also involves creating Partnerships between the Health Service Providers and the Local Government Organisations in that specific region.

As an Assessment Officer for the Buloke Shire Council I would visit Clients in their home environment. At all times this assessment was performed in a holistic manner and Clients were encouraged to maintain their independence and maintain their level of self care to the best of their ability. Social connectedness and llifestyle choices complete the picture of the overall wellbeing of the Client.

At Boort District Health I provided leisure options and facilitated opportunities for Residents to maintain their social connectedness within their community. I planned and ran 'whole community' events, for example 'deb balls', 'anzac and rememberance day services', regular weekly worship services and special Mens Day Events. I also empowered Residents to have their say, speak up and make their own choices. It was identified that one Client loved elephants, so I arranged a small bus and a group traveled to Melbourne to see the baby elephant and of course stay overnight in a Motel. This event gave great joy, not only to the group that had the experience first hand, but they were then able to share their experiences with the other Residents who were unable to attend. We had our own chutney stall, growing and cooking the chutney ourselves, to a tried and tested recipe. Many times there would be 15 Residents all sitting around a table chopping tomatoes and onions for the 'next batch'. Daily life at the Hostel was fun and spontaneous, and a sense of inclusion was felt by all.
