I worked on the CSIRO Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder Science Data Archive (CASDA) project to develop the system that will archive, search and retrieve astronomical data generated by radio telescopes. The telescopes will generate around 5Pb of image data per year, and the associated metadata is expected to be in the order of 70 million records.

As part of a small team, my role involved analysis, design, implementation, testing, release management, maintenance and documentation. This involved implementing custom query, scoring and search algorithms for use in Lucene, to approximate human interpretation of an invented word, as well as performance analysis and tuning.* Data collation.
