Amanda is a policy researcher at the Urban Institute's Metropolitan Housing and Communities Policy Center, where she's focused on equitable community economic development, transportation, and housing, as well as access to resources for people with disabilities.Amanda previously served as a research assistant at The Lab @ DC, an evidence-based research shop within DC's Executive Office of the Mayor, where she worked to combine research and resident-centered design to make city services more effective and accessible for DC residents. Her projects involved building a website to increase the accessibility of housing resources in the District, as well as analyzing policy interventions aimed at increasing public transit accessibility and reducing risky driving behavior. In her early career as a writer, Amanda explored a wide variety of topics, including environmental issues, urban construction & development, technology, and health & wellness. She also has experience in multimedia story-telling and social media management, and produced a short documentary film that was nominated for several U.S. film festivals. When she’s not working or studying, you can find her hiking, reading, playing flute, and volunteering at her local library.Amanda has a Master's of Public Policy at American University, where she was the Editor-in-Chief of the Public Purpose Journal, the graduate student journal for the School of Public Affairs. She is also a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University with degrees in journalism and international studies.
