Like most young adults, I wanted to grow up to be someone who changed the world while simultaneously making a lot of money. But when it came time to choose a major in college, social work was the only career path that articulated my core values - social justice, compassion, empathy, and integrity. Combined with a passion to empower, advocate for, and support those who were often overlooked in society, I began my studies and eventually my career as a social worker. I have 8 years of professional experience working for several non-profit agencies, Winnebago County, and most recently as a Certified Peer Specialist at the first peer-run respite in the state of Wisconsin that provides services for those struggling with mental illness and/or substance abuse. My work as a Certified Peer Specialist has been the most meaningful and rewarding work I have ever done and has opened my eyes to the alternative ways that people can heal. I believe that healing happens when individuals are allowed to experience true connection and compassion in a safe, trauma-informed environment. Outside of work, I am most passionate about educating others on how to live a healthy, balanced life and enjoy hiking, writing, reading, yoga, and cooking. In the work and professional setting, I am motivated, hard-working, patient, kind, and always willing to learn and see things from new perspectives.
