Undergraduate Research AssistantKing University Aug 2018 - Apr 2019Bristol, Tennessee, United StatesI continued my neurotoxicology research investigating how gene-environment interactions influence the development of characteristics of Parkinson's disease in the model organism C. elegans from my work at NEOMED in Dr. Vanessa Fitsankis' lab. This research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Kelly Vaughan. I also conducted general lab maintenance and mentored new undergraduate lab members. In this research I was able to develop new research protocols, as well as adapt techniques I had used at NEOMED for the resources available at King University. -
Undergraduate Summer InternNortheast Ohio Medical University (Neomed) May 2018 - Aug 2018Rootstown, Ohio, United StatesIn this summer internship, I conducted environmental neurotoxicology research investigating how agricultural pesticide exposure influences the development of characteristics of Parkinson's disease in C. elegans in the lab of Dr. Vanessa Fitsanakis. I particularly looked at how a lrrk2 gene mutation and exposure to the fungicide manzate contributed to mitochondrial dysfunction. I was able to continue this research at King University, my undergraduate institution. As a result of this research I was afforded the opportunity to present a poster at the 2019 Society of Toxicology (SOT) Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD.
