I am currently a police officer, but aspiring to transfer into the mental health field. I have been in law enforcement for 11 years during this time, I held the titles of field training officer, honor guard, sniper on the SWAT team, mental health peace officer, trained in crisis intervention, critical incident stress management member, hostage negotiations member on SWAT, peer support member, member of the Texas Law Enforcement Peer Network, and “super user” with the Crisis Response Team. Mental health has been a passion of mine and to continue that passion I enrolled in the School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington to obtain my master’s degree with the specialty of mental health and substance misuse. Since obtaining my license, my goal is to also become a license clinical social worker and become certified in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).My law enforcement experience allowed me to work with various citizens dealing with mental health issues including crisis, personality disorders, mania, depression, and trauma. While in school I was given the opportunity to complete two internships with one of them being at Millwood Hospital where I facilitated processing and skills groups.
