Visiting Assistant Professor, Creative Core, School of Art + Design, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN Role: Creative Core Drawing Area Head I direct a team of 8 graduate students to instruct autonomous sections of Drawing. In weekly meetings or workshops we discuss classroom, instructional, conceptual issues and build curriculum, share resources and solve problems together. The weekly meeting also serve as a professional practices round-table. Course: Creative Core - Drawing Fundamentals 2016 Fall, 2017 Spring Semester (2 sections each) Development of visual awareness and coordination of perceptual and manual skills; seeing, representing, and inventing on an experimental, exploratory level in two dimensions. Includes placement, scale, volume, light, formal articulation, and investigations of graphic tools and media. Course: Interdisciplinary Workshop - Design Thinking 2017 Spring Semester Design Thinking is an approach to affect change in what we make, the way we see and how we engage the world. Through experiments in drawing, experience and design students challenge what they know as users and makers. 2012-Present Lecturer, Purchase College School of Visual Art & Design, State University of New York (SUNY) Course: Materials and Techniques 2012 Fall Semester - 2014 Spring SemesterIn this course I instructed students the in material processes involved in a contemporary approach to traditional techniques of egg tempera and oil painting through hands-on demos. The class explored supports, sizes, gessos, paint preparation, mediums, including grinding pigments with water and oil. The class features field trips, written assignments, and presentations focused on the discussed media and its history. Other materials and recipes demonstrated: silver point, watercolor, acrylic, distemper. Course: Painting II 2014 Spring SemesterEmphasis is on the role of technique, style, color, and composition in painting. Students’ work is based on art historical models, concepts, and direct observation during and outside of the studio class. Students develop a range of skills, including alla prima, underpainting, transparency, divided color, and various approaches to color mixing.
