Amanda Benedict-Chambers is an Assistant Professor of Elementary Education at Missouri State University. Her research focuses on pre-service and in-service elementary teacher learning, teachers learning to engage in ambitious teaching in science, and the roles of tools and practice-based teacher education in supporting teacher learning and practice. Recently, she has focused on teacher “noticing” –what teachers attend to when they analyze instruction and how they make sense of those interactions. She is interested in understanding how tools can be used to help preservice teachers learn to notice and respond to student thinking.She is the Principal Investigator of the project, "Exploring Connections Among Preservice Teachers’ Tool Use, Noticing, and Teacher Educator Feedback in Rehearsals in a Science Methods Course" which examines how video-supported rehearsal reflections help pre-service teachers notice and respond to student thinking. Recent articles appear in Teaching and Teacher Education, the International Journal of Science Education, the Journal of Science Teacher Education, and Science and Children.
