About Amanda Markel

As a new graduate of California Baptist College of Nursing, I look forward to beginning my career within a company that will allow me to not only apply the knowledge and skills I have obtained but to grow as a critical thinker. Women’s health is something I am passionate about and I desire to work for an employer that strives to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of laboring mothers. I wish to use my role as a nurse to advocate for patients in a way that provides them autonomy and safe practice. I have spent the last decade educating myself on women’s health, childbearing, and childbirth. I used this knowledge to advocate as a doula for laboring mothers during their labor process and beyond birth. In this position I offered education, labor support, positioning, and breathing techniques to help mother’s try to achieve the safe birth that they desired. My skills have been strengthened by my experience working as a Certified Nursing Assistant where I practiced family centered care, patient advocacy, and time management. Providing individuals with education and resources is something I value, which led to my involvement in coordinating the Moreno Valley Health and Resource Fair in the year 2018, as well as 2019. This role provided me with an opportunity to collaborate with health care providers, social and government agencies, and other non-profit organizations. The purpose of the health fair was to provide the residents with resources available to them within their community to help promote health and wellness. It has allowed for me to grow as a leader, a quality I hope that can be further nurtured throughout my career.
