Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world." This is so true. Few professions allow a person make a lasting impact on so many people and I do not take this responsibility lightly. Teachers are on the front lines of helping to create a compassionate and globally mindful future generation. As an English teacher, we read masterpieces from the canon and contemporary pieces. Along with teaching reading analysis and writing, I teach thinking and logical reasoning skills which are all invaluable in life. I do run a very hands-on and vocal classroom. I believe that the more engaged a student is the more he or she will gain. I subscribe to Benjamin Franklin’s credo: “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” Expect to hear about some traditional learning (writing, research, and reading) but also anticipate acting, discussions, and other active learning strategies!
