I have always been amazed and intrigued by those who can successfully bridge information from different languages to share a knowledge which, but for translators, would never reach others who do not speak it. As someone who grew up speaking 3 languages - English, Malay and my mother tongue, Kadazan - and in the process of perfecting her 4th language, French, I have had the privilege of fostering friendships from diverse cultures and seeing the world through different sets of realities. Over the years, I found the joy in learning new phrases in foreign languages from every new person I meet. I remember how nice it felt to see how it excites my Dutch friends whenever I say 'dankjewel' or 'slaap lekker'. Knowing more than two languages has helped me understand and become more skilled in communicating in a way that I am able to persuade and convince people. As Nelson Mandela once said 'If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.'I apply the same thinking in my leadership style, because whether you are connecting with potential collaborators or with your team, you're bridging diverse lenses of realities - in order to bring ideas together.I am currently part of the Freedom Film Fellowship - a fellowship that aims to nurture and support Malaysian filmmakers who are passionate to tell human rights, social justice and freedom of expression stories. Through my work, I aspire to empower Indigenous voices, providing a platform for storytellers within our communities to express themselves authentically. By creating films that resonate with Indigenous Peoples, I strive to challenge preconceived notions and ignite conversations that pave the way for positive change within the indigenous media landscape. Outside of work, I am usually on a lookout for volunteer opportunities that focuses on uplifting communities in Sabah. I am an annual mid-autumn mooncake festival baker and an avid hiker who specifically learned Adobe Premiere Pro from scratch in order to piece together videos from my adventures to share it on Youtube. Usually, I can be found off the beaten path with my life's essentials packed into a rucksack, napping in a hammock lulled by the soft drumming rhythms of a nearby river while secretly hoping for Grandmother Willow to whisper some of her 200 years of wisdom in my ears.
