My professional experiences as an artist and entrepreneur are driven by the fact that I am an explorer by nature, and I love to breathe life into old things. I am an avid toy collector, movie buff, voracious reader, tattoo lover and found object treasure hunter. Each of these characteristics contributes to my love of adventure and discovery.My work history in the retail field has also provided me with many skills. I’ve used different social media platforms daily to increase customer traffic and help customers feel like friends instead of patrons. Working with the public every day constantly improved my ability to work with diverse groups of people from all walks of life and challenged me to continually enhance my communication skills. Additionally organization and multi-tasking were essential for daily success. Supervisors have also told me that I have a unique, yet effective way of problem solving. I like to assess all of the potential roadblocks of an issue first and then maneuver my way around them, working to the projects successful completion. I’ve found that by attempting to see all the issues and pitfalls of a situation first, the proactive planning is more successful than reacting to a preventable issue mid project. However, I realize that not everything goes as planned and I am flexible and able to lead in the face of unexpected obstacles. I look forward to new experiences, learning new things and developing new skills. I have recently relocated from Philadelphia, PA to Washington State. I am currently seeking employment in the Seattle-Tacoma area. I am interested in a change in career path from the retail store sector and into a completely new industry.

To find a way to bring new life to these found objects in a way that would be both creative and functional, I started making handbags. I taught myself to design and sew. Through trial and error, I discovered several techniques to ensure the bags were durable and the ephemera protected. I have sold my handbags in several boutiques and many venues. In addition, I also use these found items to create stationary, necklaces, picture frames and other art and collages.

Retail Store ManagerHot Topic Aug 1998 - Mar 2014Bensalem, PaI was brought in and challenged to bring the store back in line with company standards and to increase holiday store sales. Utilizing my organizational strengths, concise communication skills and a desire to provide outstanding customer service, I turned the store around visually and exceeded the holiday sales plan by 20%, earning my promotion to store manager. Many district managers continued to utilize me on different projects for my time management, attention to detail, approach to creative problem solving and ability to multi-task. Because of my recognized expertise, I was also asked to travel to other locations to rehabilitate their teams and stores. I was then promoted to a training store manager, a position that entailed training new mangers from all over the country. In addition, more than a dozen of my own team members were promoted up to store managers over the duration of my career. Realizing there was a gap in our training process, I partnered with my district manager to design a new training program to fast track part-time employees to full time management positions. Hot Topic began to do meet-and-greets with much larger scale celebrities including the cast of Glee and Robert Pattinson. Events of this scale were new to our company at the time and there was very little precedent for how they should be organized/handled. Not only did I assist in the planning and coordination of these events, but I found myself able assess potential issues/problems. For example, our Robert Pattinson event brought over 2,000 people for a 500 person ticketed event. I immediately saw issues that needed to be addressed. Working with my DM, we were able to organize and reassign the team to implement more effective strategies to meet the needs of different customers. Later, my regional manager wrote me and thanked me for my insight and responsiveness at such an important event. My leadership abilities were publically awarded at our corporate retreat that year. -
ParticipantReflective Multimedia/Visible Friends Network 2001 - 2014Greater Philadelphia AreaIn 2001 I became part of the Reflective Multimedia group. This was a Philadelphia based organization dedicated to improving and expanding the local rave/dance scene. We organized countless events with DJ’s from all over the world. Reflective would meet weekly to discuss events and I noticed immediately that the group needed better organization and clearer mission. I stepped in to a managerial/leadership role with the group to overcome these obstacles. Our most successful event was a 911 fundraiser. I partnered with a small group to plan, organize and host the event. We raised more than $16,000 in one night. As the dance scene in Philadelphia dwindled, the group switched gears and became the Visible Friends Network, a group more dedicated to science and critical thinking in the arts and media. Most recently I have collaborated with key people in the group on creating and hosting an adult science fair to highlight science in every day life. We worked with local businesses to receive sponsorship, created advertising for local papers and websites and created rules and standards for entries into the event. The “Out There Science Fair” will be held in September 2014.

Co-Founder/Co-CreatorNo Ego Design 2006 - 2008Greater Philadelphia AreaIn 2006, a friend and I were having a discussion about the many talented artists we knew in the Philadelphia region and that often, owning original art could be too expensive for the average art lover. We pooled our resources and ideas to create No Ego Design. We partnered with many local artists and proposed our idea; If they would each create a unique piece of art for our company, we would have that design printed on to tees and other assorted items. Each artist would receive a flat fee for the art, then commission for product sold. Each tee sold from each artist’s would also include the artist’s bio and contact info. In turn we would be promoting local artists, yet also providing people with an affordable way to show and display their love of said artists. The venture was very successful and we eventually began to include smaller pieces of art when we would vend. Several of our artists have moved on to be quite successful.
