About Amanda Poglits
I'm a Yamatji, Noongar woman born and raised in Three Springs. My life has provided me with opportunities and I have grabbed them. From a 16 year old living in Québec, Canada with a French speaking family on a full Western Mining Corp scholarship for 12 months, to being awarded a full university scholarship to complete my Bachelor of Science (Mineral Exploration and Mining Geology) degree at the Western Australian School of Mines to now working full time with our most vulnerable families to achieve change whilst completing my Bachelor of Social Work degree. My work has taken me from the mining industry to an extensive working history in the state government for almost 20 years. From assisting children in their education, to teachers who education our children, to policy for cultural change, I’m definitely where I belong.Currently, appointed in 2009 as an Aboriginal Practice Leader within the Department of Child Protection, my passion within the role has evolved, my cultural knowledge, connection and lived experiences have informed improvements in engagement and best case practice for the Aboriginal community amongst staff who work with our most vulnerable community members. I have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the child protection space and am always wanting to hear and listen to ensure that things can change for the betterment of families in this area where cultural context is imperative in community work.My need to continue in this area has led me to study my Bachelor of Social Work with a desire to see change in our society, to advocate the different ways of seeing, doing and hearing so that equity is shared as whole community with understanding and empathy.
