Prepare biopsy specimens to view on slides by pathologist. Preparation includes accessioning, grossing, embedding, microtomy, and staining small biopsy tissue. Responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting equipment such as coverslipper, processor, and stainer. Reviews and updates SOPs as needed to follow CLIA guidelines. Tracks inventory and orders reagents. stains, and other supplies. Administration duties include faxing and scanning pathology reports to outreach endoscopy centers. Answers phone calls from endoscopy centers and nurses relating to pathology results and samples.

Perform chemical prep and analysis of drinking water and waste water using wet bench methods including total dissolved solids, total suspended solids, total solids, and sulfides by titration. Instrument knowledge includes Metrohm, Shimazdu, Technicon, and GCMS. Also familiar with Microbiological drinking water methods. Other duties include reviewing, verifying and reporting data into a laboratory information management system (LIMS). Reviewing standard operating procedures (SOP) and providing input on techniques are also included.

Reviewing applications for new hires, assisting in interviews of potential employees, ordering merchandise for the store, creating work schedules for employees, training new employees, verifying cash amounts when opening and closing registers. Completing transactions at the cash register, assisting customers, preparing hot dogs, popcorn, and other food items for sale.

Preparing food (mice, rats, quail) for five education raptors, cleaning cages, cleaning work areas, filling out observation charts, handling an American kestrel, observing behavior and monitoring the health of the American kestrel.
