I started my career in nursing as a patient care technician (PCT) through nursing school. I worked on various units during my time as a PCT. After graduating from nursing school, I took a position as an emergency department nurse with the region's only adult and pediatric level one trauma center. Following a move, I relocated to a different emergency department closer to home. A little over a year into this new position, I decided to branch out and try another field of nursing. I ended up in perianesthesia and gained new skills and a different perspective on patient care. While working in both the emergency department and perianesthesia, I developed a love for teaching and precepting. I was frequently asked to precept new staff and help develop educational content for my peers. This drove me to pursue a Master's degree in nursing education, which I am currently working to complete. I was also presented with an opportunity to move into a nurse educator role with the same hospital system I was currently working for. I took the leap into education and have gained experiences and skills that have shaped my teaching style and continue to foster my professional development. Most recently, I transitioned into an ED unit educator role with Penn State Health and look forward to growing personally and professionally as a nurse leader.
