Manage the coding section of the HIM department. Responsible for training new staff on both ICD-9-CM and CPT coding and eliminating the need for outsourcing. Responsible for performing data quality audits and presenting results to the coding staff. Reduced the average unbilled A/R from 15 to 5 days. Function on many hospital-wide committees to assist with training and monitoring APC's. Trouble shoot problems identified on the hospital-wide information system. Responsible for abstraction and reporting of Core Measures.

Supervision of 8 employees who performed DRG/CPT coding validation and on-site coding coverage. Also, functioned as site manager for two outsourced facilities. Performed on and off-site DRG validation. Performed coder and physician education. Developed and maintained policies and procedures for the review section of HIA. Assisted the Director of Quality Control with internal coding performance evaluations.

Performed on-site DRG vaildation. Visited a different Humana facility each week to discuss: DRG optimization, quality of coding, PRO relationships, physician attestation completion and timely billing procedures under the prospective payment system. Worked on developing a computerized based coding education course. Also, helped develop a Cobra compliance audit.

Responsible for coordinating system design, training, specification and implementation activities for a new and enhanced Clinical/Financial Information System. Primary information system support for health information departments.
