We were honored to have Amanda as a part of this most prestigious program, being NASA's longest running since 1986. It was ranked among the top ten best college internship programs by Vault Career Intelligence in 2011. While in the program, Amanda worked on Elemental Water Impact Testing (EWIT) which included instrumenting an aluminum shell with multiple sensors, setting up the data acquisition system, recording data as the shell was dropped into a pool, and then reviewing and analyzing the data using MATLAB scripts. She also supported the Orion Boiler Plate Test Article (BTA) drop testing and helped test any concerns the engineers performing the BTA drop tests had with instrumentation. Finally, she helped develop a methodology for tracking test article plunge depth using high speed cameras. As a result of her work, Amanda received the NASA Individual Achievement Award for the Structural Passive Landing Attenuation for Survivability of Human-crew (SPLASH) Project in August, 2011. Although I did not work directly with Amanda in a technical capacity, I can assure you that her work, her work ethics, and abilities are very impressive per her mentor and the fact alone that she was presented with a prestigious NASA award. I am confident that she would be an asset to any organization fortunate enough to have her accept an offer of employment."
