Recruitment Revolution (RR) was a start up business by two local recruiters who had created a website that was fundamentally a brokerage between recruitment agencies. I was brought on part time whilst I was pregnant with my second child, to help them build the brand and set up some infrastructure. I contacted recruitment agencies across Australia and New Zealand to explain RR and how it would benefit their business, offer support to existing clients, training the staff on how to use it, updating the data base, creating documents, new processes and procedures, and assisting with the accounts and general administration.

I started with IPA Personnel to head up a team of consultants travelling around regional NSW running Assessment Centres for a government agency over 3 months, I then took on the Newcastle branch, which was predominantly an Intensive Assistance Job Network agency with a very small commercial arm.I managed the Job Network team and built a successful commercial team and business in the area. Having had no experience in the Job Network business, my main challenge was to bring harmony between the two very different cultures and business models. Although challenging both businesses prospered, in particular, the commercial arm. I was responsible for all aspects of the business including budgeting, reporting, staffing, temporary payroll, sales, service, learning and development, cultural change, training etc. My team and I built a very strong reputation as bulk recruiters, winning contracts with many large call centres. After IPA lost the Job Network contract nationally, we closed the combined branch and opened the commercial branch in Hamilton. With a staff of approximately 8 FTE we successfully built our business as a commercial and executive agency with a solid temporary portfolio and a strong permanent desk and significant bulk recruitment / assessment centre business.

My first two years with Adecco was as the Commercial Permanent Consultant, I then moved into the Branch Managers role. As Manager I was responsible for all aspects of running the business as a cost centre.In a regional branch, we worked as a team running a substantial, predominantly industrial temporary staffing desk and a healthy permanent desk. With a large territory, our client base included everything from small enterprise to large corporate and government. The role was end to end recruitment, management of a team of consultants and account managers, budget creation, compliance, OH&S and site compliance, understanding a vast range of awards and enterprise agreements and Fair work compliant processes, ensuring budgets were being met and that all employees were aware of their responsibilities and knew what they were contributing, what was in their ‘pipeline’ what their margins were and what their growth percentages were. One of the areas that I built was ‘Assessment Centre’ methodology, working with an amazing team creating the processes we had it down to an art form and successfully recruited this way for a number of major clients, many of whom followed me to future employers asking me to deliver the process that I had done so successfully for them. Our branch was part of the ‘outplacement’ team when BHP closed down, working with our sister company Lee Hect Harrison, this was a massive project working with employees who had been made redundant from jobs they had been in all their lives. We were also part of the Sydney Olympic alliance, working with local partners in promoting our businesses as suppliers to the games.
