Develop new products for the Canadian cannabis market with a focus in biochemistry related and confectionary products. Develop formulations for new products and oversee the product specifications and technical transfer from lab scale to production scale. Work closely with various teams across the company to ensure a smooth transition to production. Write and conduct performance qualifications as they pertained to processes in production. Troubleshoot as needed when issues arise in production suites associated with current projects. Troubleshoot product issues as the need arises. Write reports to summarize findings and product development reports as projects are completed. Work closely with vendors to obtain high quality materials for formulations, and build relationships to aid with future project needs.

Develop, and validate ICP-MS methods for analysis of various cannabis matrices. Maintain the ICP-MS in a calibrated and working state including troubleshooting the equipment. Conduct routine testing, and various investigative analyses as required to determine the metal type in various samples brought to the laboratory. Write method validation plans, method validation reports, standard operating procedures, quality control test methods and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) reports as they pertain to the ICP-MS. Perform validations on various potency and terpene methods on HPLC and GC-MS as required. Perform routine testing within the analytical lab. Contact vendors and source parts for the equipment. Aid in maintaining the analytical cannabis inventory as per the Analytical Services Cannabis License. Train team members and Quality Control Chemists as new methods are developed and validated.

Responsible the set-up and software validations, for the ICP-MS and microwave digestion system in a cGMP quality control lab. Maintain the Microwave Digester and ICP-MS in a calibrated working state including troubleshooting the equipment. Develop and write all training and maintenance procedures for equipment in the ICP-MS lab. Develop and validate all methods to test for metal impurities in active pharmaceutical ingredients as per ICH and USP regulatory guidelines. Write analytical development reports, method validation plans, method validation reports, and quality control test methods for metal impurity testing. Meet with clients for approvals on documents and validation plans as well as contact vendors for maintenance issues.

Instructor for first year university chemistry lab (approximately 30 students). Instruct and demonstrate proper equipment use and laboratory techniques. Ensure safety protocols are followed. Answer any questions students may have, correct lab reports each week and proctor and correct examinations. Aid students in their understanding pertaining to assignments, practise exams, and/or course notes.

Ferment microbes for downstream processes in a cGMP setting. Process microbial samples for purity and prepare samples for analysis in quality control. Clean equipment, and follow standard operating procedures. Write batch production records, work instructions and standard operating procedures for the fermentation department. Respond to client comments as they pertained to the batch production records.

Assisted in instructing the first year chemistry laboratory, and the second year animal diversity laboratory at UPEI. Helped monitor the students to ensure chemicals, solutions and equipment were used properly and safely. Answer student’s questions, correct pre-lab reports, and lab examinations.

Prepared, digested, and analyzed samples for lead, iron and chloride content by titration and various other minor elements by atomic absorption in compliance with ISO-9001. This was to determine the percentage of each element in the samples to allow in-process support to the plant for extraction of the elements. Ensured equipment in the laboratory was properly calibrated each morning, cleaned glassware after use ensuring no contamination was present for the next use, and followed SOPs. Trained other employees as required.
