Amanda White is Ojibwe with family from Wiikwemkoong, Manitoulin Island; she was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario and carries an understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing through cultural teachings and continual learning. Amanda has worked at Mohawk College within Indigenous Student Services (ISS) for over a decade supporting Indigenous learners. As manager of ISS, Amanda has overseen and supported the team with a new model that reduces barriers, and supports Indigenous learner access, transition, retention, and engagement towards success. Amanda’s contributions have spanned the college as PT faculty for Indigenous courses, facilitator for professional development, and serving on the Board of Governors. She was recently appointed as Acting Director, Indigenous initiatives and special advisor supporting Indigenous education initiatives. Amanda is a three-time alumna of Mohawk College and holds a BA in English language and literature from Queen’s University.

Special Project LeadMohawk College Jun 2011 - Jun 2012Fennell Campus• Facilitated and acted as the primary contact to the community and session facilitators for the two month pilot summer experience Project Pathfinder for students aged 13-18 allowing them to learn about post secondary education and their Aboriginal Culture.• Coordinated all travel, accommodations, catering, room bookings, technology, and sessions throughout Hamilton, Guelph and Six Nations for Project Pathfinder allowing the camp to run efficiently and the students to remain engaged and learning. • Supervised a staff of five mentors throughout the program, coordinated an initial orientation as well as shifts and duties for the camp. • Acted as the production lead and primary contact to the documentary crew the department was working with to coordinating times and locations for interviews as well as travel and accommodations throughout Canada allowing production to remain on time and organized.• Built relationships with new partners and acted as the primary contact for documentary interviewees and maintained contact to schedule workshops for the second year of Project Pathfinder. • Conferred with facilities, catering, parking services and various Mohawk College departments and faculties regularly to coordinate events during the school year in order to increase community awareness, cultural teachings and student success bringing new interest to the department and Aboriginal community as well as sharing knowledge with others.
