Volunteer opportunities with Yntymak varied. In the beginning, I helped collect items for and worked a silent auction to raise money for the organization; I packaged and handed out backpacks for low-income families, packed bags for women and men in the retirement home, and spent time in the orphanage organizing activities and games. Later, a friend and I worked together to identify families of disabled children in need who were often overlooked; we provided monthly food baskets, gathered donations for medical supplies, and found contractors to fix or build much-needed items in the homes. We spent time with the families listening to the parents share their struggles and providing education on ways to work with their children. We facilitated meetings between the families and other organizations that could provide further assistance for the needs of the children.

I have volunteered as an after school activity coordinator who organized various activities for students including a baking group, art appreciation, and a SSAT test prep instructor. I have also assisted as needed in the art and health classrooms and in the library, both organizing books and as an after school librarian.
