As Executive Director of Greenbelt Alliance, Amanda provides strategic direction and leadership for the organization. She has overseen the development of a new mission and vision for Greenbelt Alliance, building on its 60-year legacy of advocacy to position the organization to work to build a more inclusive, climate-resilient Bay Area.Amanda believes strongly in the roles of education, advocacy, and deep collaboration across sectors and jurisdictions to ensure the Bay Area's lands and people are resilient to a changing climate. Throughout her career she has worked to shape how our communities grow and change to enhance our connections to nature, reduce our environmental impacts, and create vibrant, equitable, healthy communities for all.Amanda rejoined Greenbelt Alliance after running the Resilient by Design | Bay Area Challenge. This collaborative design challenge brought together local residents, public officials, and international design experts to develop innovative, community-based solutions to strengthen the Bay Area’s resilience to sea-level rise. This experience has given Amanda a unique perspective on how our region can embrace climate-smart growth. Prior to this effort, Amanda helped communities throughout California develop and pass public finance measures raising hundreds of millions of dollars in new funding for conservation, parks and other essential infrastructure. As Deputy Director of Greenbelt Alliance, Amanda worked with communities throughout the nine-county Bay Area to protect our region’s iconic natural areas and encourage the right development in the right places.

This initiative is based on the award-winning model Rebuild by Design, a bold public-private collaboration that brought innovative solutions to areas impacted by Hurricane Sandy. In a yearlong challenge, ten teams of architects, engineers, designers and other experts will work alongside community members to identify critical areas along the Bayfront and propose exciting, new, community-based solutions that will strengthen our region’s resilience to sea level rise, severe storms, flooding and earthquakes. -
