Department of Pharmacology & Cancer BiologyLaboratory of Daniel Wechsler, M.D., Ph.D.Dissertation: Implications of a CALM-derived Nuclear Export Signal for CALM-AF10-mediated LeukemogenesisCollaborated with clinician scientists to identify novel mechanisms by which the CALM-AF10 oncogene causes leukemia. Discovered that CALM-AF10 contains a nuclear export signal (NES) that is necessary and sufficient for leukemia progression (Conway et al., Blood 2013). Elucidated a novel mechanism by which CALM-AF10 aberrantly activates HOXA cluster genes via interaction with nuclear export receptor CRM1 on chromatin (Conway et al., Leukemia 2014). Importantly, CRM1 inhibitors may be a therapeutic option for patients with CALM-AF10 leukemias.-Mentored and supervised one undergraduate student and three clinical research fellows-Presented research findings in poster format at 2012 American Association of Cancer Research (AACR) National Meeting in Chicago, IL and 2012 Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Dynamic Organization of Nuclear Function Meeting
