Accountants aren't known for being passionate, but I am. I'm passionate about efficiency, business growth and ensuring that goals are met. When I bought into the practice in August 2007, it was a traditional firm doing mostly compliance work using an in-house server and desktop software. I have been an early adopter of new technology all my working life, so it is no surprise that I used this firm as a learning experience and training ground to test my theories about improving efficiencies with cloud technology. I am enthusiastic about the benefits to be gained from streamlining systems and reducing the duplications so inherent in traditional accounting firms. My enthusiasm infected the team and clients, the majority of whom transitioned to cloud systems under my guidance. From 14 databases down to just 4, from time savings to using synchronised systems between the clients and internally, from single to double monitors the list goes on. During this time, I gained extensive experience in how to run a business, and the pitfalls, stresses and issues that business owners face. From dealing with the accounts, paying bills, reconciling bank accounts, to dealing with contracts, bankers, solicitors, insurance renewals and a myriad of other administration tasks, I did it all. The experience gained during this period provided me with inside knowledge and understanding of what it is really like to run a business and how accounting firms can provide appropriate support and advice to help the owners.
