I cared for critically ill patients at the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consotorium.

I cared for the critically ill patients that had suffered severe burn injuries including inhalation, chemical, electric and flame burns at West Hills Hospital.

I floated between 5 intensive care units at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. The units included trauma icu, surgical icu, medical icu, coronary care unit and burn icu. I was introduced to the electronic health record, EPIC.

Contracted to an intensive care unit at Mountainview Hospital where I directly cared for critically ill patients. I was introduced to and became proficient in the electronic health record, Meditech.

I provided personalized care to the critically ill in a busy, 32 bed Medical ICU. I collaborated with healthcare providers continually to establish the best possible plan for the patient. I provided several life sustaining treatments inculding CVVH, rotoprone bed therapy, multiple pressor support, ventilator maintenence, and many others. I became proficient with interpretation of lab values and diagnostic results in order to provide the appropriate care. I enhaced my skills of establishing positive rapport with family members and patients during a time that is stressful for them.

I collaborated with RNs, MDs and therapists about the plan of care for patients. I was able to develop the understanding of complex disease processes and focused treatments for patients undergoing extensive surgery including transplantation. By immersing myself in the culture and work environment of a busy intensive care unit I mastered skills such as full assessments, management of invasive lines including central access and arterial, ventilator settings and maintenance, administration of medications and effective communication with healthcare providers, patients and their families.
